Port Bridge Opens!

01.08.2008

The new Port River Expressway's Diver Derrick Bridge opened today - a critical link for frieght paths and the enhancement of area development.  Well done to Dave Barker and all the Engineering Surveys crew that made this feat of engineering a reality.

A few facts:

20,000 vehicles are expected to use the bridge daily;

The single opening bridge has a 58m wide opening span and uses a counterweight of 2250 tonnes, while the rail bridge uses an 1150 tonne counterweight to open.

Total length is about 300m and the bridge has about an 8m clearance above high tide in the Port River.
